Speaker Johnson forms new subcommittee to uncover the truth of what led to Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol incident

WASHINGTON, DC - House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) announced this week the formation of a new subcommittee to further look into the circumstances surrounding the Jan. 6, 2021 US Capitol siege, The Post Millennial reports.

The subcommittee will be headed by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), who previously led an investigation into the activities of the J6 Select Committee and the security shortcomings on that date. Before leaving office last Monday, Joe Biden issued blanket pardons to all lawmakers and staff who served on the committee. The new subcommittee will operate under the auspices of the House Judiciary Committee led by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH).

“House Republicans are proud of our work so far in exposing the false narratives peddled by the politically-motivated January 6 Select Committee during the 117th Congress, but there is still more work to be done,” Johnson said in a statement. “We are establishing this Select Subcommittee to continue our efforts to uncover the full truth that is owed to the American people. The composition and other details regarding the Select Subcommittee will be announced soon.”

Johnson’s announcement comes as the Republican Party continues looking into the events surrounding the Jan. 6 Capitol event. After Biden decided to pardon all those involved with the Jan 6 Select Committee, President Trump pardoned a large majority of those arrested in conjunction with the events of that date while commuting the sentences of those charged with more serious offenses.
